These locations only take a few hours to get to by plane and have year-round activities for tourists looking to get away from icy conditions.
Mexico
Many sandy beaches await on both of Mexico’s coasts.
With temperate weather almost year round and very little rain, almost any week of the year is a great one to visit one of Mexico’s hundreds of beach resorts and quiet seaside towns. The location near the US mainland makes it an easy 3-day vacation.
On the Western coast of Mexico, you can visit Cabo San Lucas (also known as Los Cabos). There are several resorts here that plan activities and group functions, or find your own discount hotel online at such sites as orbitz.com and plan your own sightseeing tours. Most of the locals speak at least some English, making it easy to get around. The cost of food, wine, and alcohol is relatively inexpensive, though you should only drink bottled water while there, which is easily available from any vendor.

Puerto Rico

The islands that make up the country of Puerto Rico are elegant and full of white sand and crystal blue water. One of the best parts about Puerto Rico is that as a US citizen, you are actually not leaving the country, because it is a territory of the US, and all people born there are citizens of the United States.
Though Spanish is the spoken language, like Mexicans, many Puerto Ricans speak English, especially those who work in one of the dozens of resorts, tourist hotspots, or hotels. Dominican Republic
Caribbean Country may surprise you with its posh resorts and hotels.
Located south of Florida, the Dominican Republic (DR) is quickly gaining as a tourist hotspot during the cold winter days. It is also fabulous for a long weekend getaway, even with the kids! You can go the all-inclusive Club Med route here too for singles, couples, or families.

Jamaica
Arguably one of the more famous of the long weekend islands, Jamaica is the Caribbean experience at its finest. There are several hotel/resorts that can be booked weeks in advance. Many travel agents also have air and resort packages that can save you money on your airplane ticket and give you the most direct flight. Here you can take in the fine island cuisine that includes many spicy and savory dishes and the heralded music of Jamaica during your 3-day vacation. There are also several 3-day spa vacations that you can take, as several resorts have the amenities for the full spa pampering treatment.
Key West
Fear of Flying? Then Drive to your 3-day vacation paradise!
Key West is a series of islands in Florida that are just off the tip and a part of the larger Florida Keys. A mix of American and Caribbean culture will greet you here, and you don’t have to leave the continental United States to get there. A long bridge with traffic going both in and out connects Key West to the rest of Florida, making it an easy drive for a 3-day vacation.
Here you will find many resorts and hotels situated on the clean, sandy beaches. In addition to other activities, scuba diving, beach parties, and volleyball tournaments take place in Key West, especially during Spring Break.
